COURSE OVERVIEW

The film and TV industry in the UK is booming – official statistics show that it has grown by more than 72% in value since 2014. The UK is benefiting from the growth in demand for digital content and digital TV platforms like Netflix and YouTube. There has never been a better time to follow your dreams, if you have an interest in working within a film crew, within TV productions or working on online platforms; employment in production has risen by 50% in the past nine years!

This course allows students to work on a variety of different creative projects such as; short films, documentaries, single and multi-camera productions, live studio television, film trailers, creative photography and motion graphics. You will learn to script, plan and story board, use camera equipment, edit film and work with audio to ensure you have a good understanding of the variety of skills used within the film and TV industries. You will have the opportunities to explore lots of different skills and creative techniques combining theory and practice. Group work is essential, so you will quickly make new friends whilst learning the creative and technical skills necessary for industry. Projects are designed to give you an insight into varying careers within the film, TV and online broadcast industries. These include, camera operators, editors, directors, producers, photographers and more. There are also opportunities to gain input from industry professionals and work on live projects whilst building your very own show reel as a portfolio to help you progress into higher education or into employment. The Tees Valley is already an established location for feature films and high end TV (Star Wars, Black Widow, Victoria, Vera and many others have all filmed in the area in the past couple of years). The British Film Institute and British Film Council agree that there is an ongoing need for skilled people in the industry.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

DURATION - 2 YEARS

A minimum of four GCSEs at C/4 or above including Maths and English at grade D/3, plus a portfolio of work. (If you have maths/english at grade D/3 you would be required to work towards these qualifications alongside your course)
